Article by MALS Student Laura Arman Published in the Concord Monitor

An article written by MALS Globalization student Laura Arman exploring the subject of human trafficking in New Hampshire was published in this past week's edition of the Concord Monitor.

Written as an assignment for "MALS 207: Journalism" under the instruction of Professor Tom Zoellner, Arman conducted extensive research via personal interviews, reviewing court documents on human trafficking cases in the state, and exploring local and federal trafficking laws.

Using the research methods taught in MALS 207, Arman spoke with several authorities on the subject, including human trafficking victims, public policy specialists, law enforcement officials, US Department attorneys, US Homeland Security special agents, and criminal researchers to inform her report. Arman also attained an official statement from the Governor of New Hampshire, Chris Sununu, which was ultimately not included in the final publication.

It is the goal of MALS 207 for all students to complete the course with a finished piece of writing that should be considered "ready for publication" by a quality outlet. When asked why she wished to write on this subject, Arman wrote that she "wanted to cover something that is of use to public service, as human trafficking is an important, but under-reported issue."
