The opening event of a two day biography conference on "Unshackled Lives" will feature Gretchen Holbrook Gerzina, author (among other works) of Mr. and Mrs PrinceHow an Extraordinary Eighteenth-Century Family Moved Out of Slavery and Into Legend and Black Britain: A Forgotten Georgian History and David Waldstreicher, author (most recently) of The Odyssey of Phillis WheatleyA Poet's Journeys Through American Slavery and Independence.  Dartmouth History Professor Robert Bonner and Kaija Celestin '25 will moderate the session, which is open to the public and does not require pre-registration.
