Since the Second World War, a so-called “postindustrial” society marked by the demise of the factory system has been often announced. But has advanced capitalism really entered a “postindustrial” phase in which the factory has been displaced by digital technologies, immaterial production, and knowledge-based services? Rather than the demise of the factory system, our present moment has perhaps instead witnessed its global expansion and adaptation to the demands of data consumption.
