Financial Aid at MALS

Dartmouth College Financial Aid Office helps graduate students with federal loan needs. The MALS program also offers partial-tuition scholarships to be applied to the required nine courses, referred to as MALS Scholarships.

For the each academic year, financial aid, including partial tuition scholarships, and budget estimate information, will be made available to applicants as soon as it is updated and distributed from the Dartmouth Finance Office. 

U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents

U.S. citizens and permanent residents may apply for federal student loan programs, in addition to a MALS scholarship. Read more about applying for federal aid on the Dartmouth Financial Aid Office website.

International Students

International students may apply for MALS at Dartmouth scholarships, but are not eligible for U.S. Federal Loans. They can apply for private loans, to explore private loan options please visit the Private Educational Loans page on the Financial Aid Office website and select the "Connect to Lender List" at the bottom of the page. Here you will find a comprehensive, three-year list of lenders used by past and current graduate students. MALS scholarships are applied as partial tuition for the nine required courses only. 

 

2024-2025 Budget Tuition Rates and Fees

Tuition rates per term:

  • $8,816 (one course- part-time) per term
  • $15,429 (two courses- full-time) per term
  • $22,041 (three courses - requires approval from the Program Chair and Program Director) per term

1 term = 10 weeks. There are four terms in an Academic Year at Dartmouth College (see Dartmouth's Academic Calendar)

Mandatory Fees:

*this figure is for the 2023-2024 academic year, the rate for 2024-2025 has not yet been released, but it will likely increase. 

Additional Estimated Costs (per term):

  • Housing/Rent: $3,540 per term (for housing resources, please visit the Housing section of our website.)
  • Meals: $4,380 per term (for Dartmouth Dining services/plan options, please visit: https://dining.dartmouth.edu/dining-plans/dining-plan-options)
  • Books, Course Materials, Supplies, and Equipment: $200 per course credit
  • Local Transportation: $577 per term (for more information about transportation, visit the "Life at Dartmouth" section of our website and scroll down to "Area Transportation.")
  • Personal allowance: $875 per term
