Larry Olmsted is an award-winning journalist and New York Times, Wall Street Journal & Washington Post bestselling author. Over the past two decades he has published several thousand articles in print and online for newspapers, magazines, websites and digital platforms around the world. His work has appeared in print and online for the Wall Street Journal, Town & Country, Forbes, USA Today, Financial Times, New York Daily News, Inc., Boston Globe, New York Magazine, Playboy, Outside, Bon Appetit, Golf Magazine, Men’s Health, Investor’s Business Daily, Popular Mechanics, and the in-flight magazines of United, American, US Airways, and KLM airlines, along with dozens of other publications. His areas of specialty are travel, food, participant sports, and business topics. He has been a columnist or contributing editor for several newspapers and magazines.

He is the author of Getting into Guinness (Harper Collins, 2008), for which he personally set or broke three Guinness World Records; Real Food, Fake Food (Algonquin, 2016) which was a bestseller in the US and Canada as both a hardcover and e-book; and the forthcoming Good Sports (Algonquin, 2019).

In 2017 he won a Silver Prize from the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) in the Digital Category for an online feature written for Town&Country.com and took fourth place in a separate print category. His recurring digital column for Forbes.com was named one of the World’s Top 100 Travel Sites.

He often does public appearances, conferences, television and radio and other medium to discuss his work and expertise. He has been a presenter at SXSW in Austin, spoken at numerous professional, association and academic conferences, on numerous national network and syndicated television shows, and hundreds of radio interviews, and is currently preparing a TEDx talk for early 2019. His MALS class titled Structure & Purpose: Writing in the Digital Age: Non-Linear Non-Fiction, focuses on using a creative narrative structure and organization of material to make non-fiction works as compelling and interesting as possible across all contemporary formats, from personal blogs to online articles, short and long form print articles, and book length works. The same facts or story can be told in myriad ways, and some work better than others. His core belief is that if you write something, you want someone to read it, and that’s more likely the more interesting you make it, regardless of your topic or venue.
