Verdi's consumptive courtesan (Natalie Dessay) returns in Willy Decker's visually striking production.
“Verdi is absolutely focused on Violetta,” says Willy Decker, the director of the Met’s production of La Traviata. “He follows her like an obsessed lover through this piece.” He’s not alone. Decker’s innovative modern-dress staging of Verdi’s timeless tragedy stars the riveting singing actress Natalie Dessay as Violetta. Matthew Polenzani is Alfredo Germont, the young man from a good family who risks everything for her. Dmitri Hvorostovsky sings Giorgio Germont, Alfredo’s father. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium.
This Wednesday show is an encore broadcast.
